Why is yahoo messenger going away?

Verizon terminated Yahoo messenger on July 17, 2018. We had 3 months warning. It's gone.

It was gone a long time ago. Instant messenger no longer exists. It was discontinued in July: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN28776.html
