How reliable is the 2019 Toyota Yaris?

You heard wrong.

Don't sweat it. If you're buying a 2019 it'll be covered by warranty for several years. The Mazda-engined Sedan is better than the Toyota powered hatchback. Mazda auto transmissions are not particularly weak. You're thinking of Nissan Jatco units.

When Ford owned controlling interest in Mazda in the 90's they MADE Mazda put Fords CD4E transaxle in it. That was the Worst transmission ever, along with the 4l30 made in France. Mazda does NOT make their own transmissions, usually Aisin Warner (AW). Toyota wouldn't sell a version of it if it had a bad transaxle. Think about it.

You will never know until time tells. Personally i would buy the yaris over the corolla cvt transmission. But you gotta take care of it including changing the engine oil, I would never go over 8k miles with synthetic oil. I would change the transmission fluid and coolant every 30-50k miles.
Twila: The Toyota Yaris (Japanese
The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ ・ヤリス Toyota Yarisu) is a subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet. ... From 2015, most Yaris sedan models marketed in North America are based on the Mazda2 and produced for Toyota by Mazda. I have seen many of Scotty's videos..............all I can suggest is to NOT buy a new vehicle of any kind unless you like losing $ 1000's in value when the vehicle leaves the dealer lot

I'd listen to Scotty Kilmer. He's an honest mechanic for a reason. I drive a chevy. My Chevy Spark never let me down.

The Yaris has a CVT.

The Yaris has a sticker price of $15K and you can easily get it for under $14K. If comes with a 3 yr/36,000 mi basic, 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain warranty. It's a cheap car and the life expectancy of it is not more than 7 years.
