Can I cross the Canadian border without a passport?

most websites say....... SO WHAT. There are only two websites that matter. One is from the Government of Canada Border Officials and the other one is the US Government Border requirements for a return entry. Crossing into Canada is a little more than just waving your identification at the border guard. They do not have to let you pass. CHILDREN can cross with a Birth certificate. All visitors arriving from or transiting through the United States should visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website for information concerning the requirements to enter, transit through, or return to the United States. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/ivc-rnc-eng.html https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/western-hemisphere-travel-initiative What types of documents are accepted for entry into the United States via land and sea? U.S. citizens can present a valid: U.S. Passport; Passport Card; Enhanced Driver’s License; Trusted Traveler Program card (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST); U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders; U.S. Merchant Mariner document when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or Form I-872 American Indian Card, or (when available) Enhanced Tribal Card. U.S. and Canadian citizen children under the age of 16 (or under 19, if traveling with a school, religious group, or other youth group) need only present a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship. It is possible to pass without a passport. You DO NEED a Border crossing document from the list and CHILDREN not with their parents need permission of their Parents to cross and and ADULT designated to be responsible for them. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/449/kw/minors%20travelling%20alone You could use one of the letters on this site for both directions of travel if you are a child with just a birth certificate. https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/children/consent-letter

Everyone entering Canada must provide proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A passport or NEXUS card is the easiest way, but neither is required to enter Canada. When traveling to Canada for tourism purposes for stays of less than 180 days, U.S. citizens do not need a Canadian visa.

getting back into the US is another issue. If you're returning to the U.S. by land, you must provide one Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant document to prove your citizenship. This includes a valid U.S. passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license, a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, or a Native American Tribal Photo Identification or Enhanced Tribal Card for Native Americans. Military personnel can also use their military identification along with official orders proving the reason for travel. U.S. citizens on official maritime business can use a U.S. Merchant Mariner document. If you are returning to the U.S. from Canada by air, you can only use a U.S. Passport as proof of citizenship.
Oh boy
No. You need a passport or an enhanced license
