One is from the Government of Canada Border Officials and the other one is the US Government Border requirements for a return entry. Crossing into Canada is a little more than just waving your identification at the border guard. They do not have to let you pass. CHILDREN can cross with a Birth certificate. getting back into the US is another issue. If you're returning to the U.S. by land, you must provide one Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant document to prove your citizenship. This includes a valid U.S. passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license, a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, or a Native American Tribal Photo Identification or Enhanced Tribal Card for Native Americans. Military personnel can also use their military identification along with official orders proving the reason for travel. U.S. citizens on official maritime business can use a U.S. Merchant Mariner document. If you are returning to the U.S. from Canada by air, you can only use a U.S. Passport as proof of citizenship.
