Whether this Midwest winter is colder than the 2013-14 one won't be known until this winter is all but over. Meteorological winter ends 31-MAR-19.

This week is going to be bitterly cold in the Midwest with temperatures in the negatives, but I've seen that the Midwest has had some mild days with high temperatures in the 40's and 50's, so I would say this winter is pretty normal for a midwest winter, but I would think it's colder.
