If Yellow Stone Super Volcano in Wyoming erupted. Would it effect New York?
busterwasmycat
If it "supervolcano" erupted, definitely. the ash would reach NY easily, assuming typical wind patterns. Regular eruption, perhaps, perhaps not. A severe eruption of a "supervolcano" would likely affect the entire world, through weather effects lasting possibly years. At minimum, the northern Hemisphere if Yellowstone blows like that. I don't think there is much risk of a direct impact from the explosion itself, that far away. A couple thousand miles, about, is a very long distance.

Yes. The ash cloud from a VEI 8 Yellowstone eruption would affect the entire northern hemisphere.

Eventually, yes. Yellowstone is erupting ALL the time, every time a geyser goes off. It would take 3 to 5 or 7 days for the ash to get to New York state.

No, it might affect New York because New York already exists.

Absolutely

I agree, yes. But the question is, how much? at the minimum, the NYC stock market would go down.

Yes.
