Well, when you share a prison cell with someone, you should expect that they have a criminal history. You can sue, but it probably won't do any good.

Some states have the information on line for free, courthouses also have public records free but only for their jurisdictions. Online background checks can be done for a fee but verify the information, they are not all that accurate.
