Had a serious life threatening situation that happened to me and my father didn't care. Normal or bad?

Had a life threatening situation that happened, and a gun that was pointed at us, the person ran away. When I went back home to tell my father he didn't ask any questions, or brought it up. he told me that it happened to a lot of people, now it happened to me. And the gun wasn't real (he doesn't know.) Um. Wtf just happened?
