When do the debates start for the 2020 presidential election?

The general election debates will be in late September or October 2020. The Democrats are still finalizing the schedule and the rules for the primary debates but it is looking like the tentative date for the first set of debates is currently set for June 2019. I say tentative because the party has not yet announced the location and the party still needs to finalize the rules for determining who gets to participate and the structure of the debates. (The participation question is key because, even limiting debates to serious candidates, there could be 15-20 candidates which is too many to have in one debate if you expect any candidate to have time to give an answer beyond "me too" to the questions.)
