The same reason household pets (Cats & Dogs) do. To clean up after themselves and their progeny. Why do some Humans prefer to eat "Organic" food that was treated with manure containing E-coli bacteria.

By doing that, they regain nutrients that passed through them too fast the first time. It's not pleasant to watch, but it's perfectly normal.
