Can I put a nest box even if my budgies might have mites?
nico
I think my budgies have mites but I dont know I let them out regularly as they are really abnormally eager to get out the cage. the mum loves to go to the nest box so I decided to hang the nest box in the cage in case she has eggs in her body. is it ok to do that? thanks

You want any bird laying eggs to be in the best health possible, without the stress of bad diet/nutrition, illness, injury or parasites. You can "THINK" or you can "KNOW", the bird has mites. Call a vet or check online how to detect them, then go from there. Get the bird's nutrition on point if she is laying eggs. Btw mites do not magically appear. They either came in either the birds, or were introduced by you bringing mite infested matter into their cage/surroundings. Make sure that you clean and inspect all natural perches/toys and plants that you bring in that they will come in contact with, this is especially true of anything that has been in contact with wild or pet shop birds, even if packaged.

I think pet stores sell a kind of "dust" that you put in a box in their cage so they can take a "dust" bath to kill those mites?.

If she's carrying eggs then she needs somewhere to lay.
