There are T8 sized bulbs that are T12 rapid start ballast compatible available. Both T8 and T12 lamps use the same G13 (13mm spaced pins) socket, but the operating technology is different. Replacement bulbs are all 1", making them 1.5" would be a waste of materials and more expensive to package and ship. https://amzn.to/2T5IIBU

Yes, they’re T8 LED bulbs. They fit in T12 fixtures. There’s ballast bypass and ballast compatible versions. Ballast bypass use less electricity.
