Is this normal for my house to have screws stuck in the studs?

Yes it can happen, it doesn’t mean much. Plus you already have screws/nails in the drywall anyway. If the screw broke then that means what it was holding was too heavy for it.

Think about all the screws holding your sheetrock. The studs don't care if the screws and nails are broken off or still holding something. You've covered over the damage. Out of sight, out of mind.....and no harm. You wouldn't believe what's underneath the plaster and sheetrock in old houses.....

It is normal and no problem at all if they are covered over.

There is lots of stuff like that. Also memorabilias, sometimes intentional. This Ol House did a segment on it.
