Ground Floor vs Top Floor Apartment?

I am going to be moving to a new apartment soon and am having trouble deciding which of two I want. 1. 800 SqFt 2-Bedroom 1st Floor (Ground) $665/month 2. 850 SqFt 2-Bedroom 3rd Floor (Top) $785/month Only difference in floor plans is the 850 SqFt has a dining area that the 800 SqFt does not.

Stairs or elevator? How many flights? Climbing while carrying laundry or groceries is not fun. Security for ground floor windows? Accessible windows often means more break-ins. Security for building overall? Lowest apartments burglarized first. Budget? Is the $120 difference a lot to you? If it were me, I'd go top floor. But I'm overly sensitive to noise above me.

Not sure that I would pay MORE to climb stairs. And 120 for 50 square feet seems high.

if you are a woman the upper floors are best, if not anyone is fine. if a woman someone can break in easier when on bottom.. think safety first

You have to consider on the 3rd floor apartment you would have to be taking every thing up stairs or an elevator, plus you would have people living above and below you. I would probably personally choose the ground flour apartment, even if it is slightly smaller.

top floor will be quieter, but ground floor will be quicker in and out. I'd go ground.

It depends on what is most important to you. For me, there would be no question; I would take the top floor because I HATE overhead noise... If you are a light sleeper or have sensitive hearing, TAKE THE TOP FLOOR. You won't have anyone tromping across their floor/your ceiling. If the more pertinent issue for you is the cost of utilities, take the middle floor; the utilities cost less. If mobility is an issue (moving in/out furniture, taking the stairs), or if you will keep a pet, take the ground floor. If your security is an issue, take the second or third floor.

i live on the top floor and like it that way, this way i never have anyone above nne

Both have their advantages. If you or anyone who visits has limited mobility, the first floor would be good, unless there's an elevator. If there is a flat roof, the top floor apartment might be hot- hot air rises and might make the top floor apartment hotter. Security might be an issue, so the upper floor MIGHT be more secure.

if your on the bottom, it's easier to move into, but you hear everyone's noise and have people stomping around above you. it's also easier for someone to break into a bottom floor apt. than a top floor. i would rather be on the top, myself.

Ground floor is best. As it is easy to get out when there is a fire or earthquake. In most of Asia.

the one on the top floor is cold in winter and hot in summer. i'd give up the space for the savings gotta like rental costs where you live, btw. which metropolitan area is this?

Common Sense

I would take the ground floor and save $120.00 per month ($1440.00/year) and either bank the money or use it for entertainment or perhaps use it on vacation. Unless, of course a small dining area is important to you.

the upper floors get all the heat in the summeR.

for me --if I were young enough-I would take the top floor. I can't handle noise well and the one time I had a downstairs apt--I heard every footstep above--and had a guy who would powerlift and drop his weights while playing heavy metal--I heard everything through the ceiling--at least upstairs it will be a little quieter. If you are older you have to consider being able to handle stairs.

Ground floor it is a walk up. Top if it has an elevator.
