How to insert a diva cup?

I bought a diva cup about 2 months ago, I’ve heard mostly only positive things about them so I decided to give them a try. I’ve tried inserting it when I was on my period, the cup wouldn’t push inside. I tried every folding method and position but the cup only goes not even half way in and until it pops open. I try to push further in but it starts to hurt, idk if it’s cause the cup is too big but I read you can use it if you are a virgin. What am I doing wrong? I really wanna use it I’m tired of pads
