it's a socially useful cognitive heuristic employed in some form or another by most human minds, if not all of them with some very complicated emergent consequences as the social context increases in scale, especially the extremely large scales we have today i wouldn't call it strictly necessary, but alternatives are... not completely obvious. i would say. at least in terms of how you'd go about practically implementing them. so uh yeah you're obviously an agent of the devil or something and should probably die in horrible pain. have a nice day.
