Why do Special Ed. teachers make more money than General Ed. teachers?

Special Ed. teachers make more money because it's more difficult to teach students in Special education because they are mentally challenged making it difficult for them to understand what is being taught in class.

I did three months of special ed teaching. It is the most miserable, thankless job, and the students often get violent. I had a large chunk of flesh from my elbow bitten off and have to be treated. It is less like teaching than it is like being a prison guard. Frankly, they don't get paid nearly enough.
