What does it mean when someone's "hard to look at"?

It could mean that the person they don`t wish to look at has features the viewer finds repellent or it could mean that for interpersonal reasons between the two, tor due to something abhorrent the person not looking believes about the other, the person just cannot look at the other person. Example: Once, very very long ago, I had two married friends and could not, would not face the spouse when the other was unfaithful so I stopped seeing them altogether.

Not sure if you mean you look at them and somehow cannot focus on their eyes (or face), OR, you see clear enough, but how bad looking they are? If the first, persevere. If not, put a flag over her and do it for Old Glory.
