When you go to a food chain restaurant (outback, Applebee) and you order a hamburger, they always ask how I want it cooked?
RICK
Because some people like theirs rare

Yeah you thought wrong. Rare beef is much better than over cooked beef. There is only a small chance of some food born illness from eating it.

I eat burgers medium rare when I can. I've never had an issue. If you can order a steak medium rare, why not a burger? If they're offering you the choice, then order it the way you want it cooked. If you want well done, order it well done (but don't be shocked when it comes out overdone).

There's a really big difference between "rare" and "raw". I get the feeling you're squeamish about a hamburger not cooked enough, which is fine, but it wouldn't make you sick.

something tells me u can't cook for squat

The diner that orders the rare hamburger does take a risk, but if they are otherwise healthy, they rarely get sick. That said, e coli survives well in rare meat. It's much safer to order it at least medium.

Restaurants are obligated to warn you that consuming undercooked or raw shellfish or proteins may be hazardous to your health. Personally, I believe eating undercooked hamburger is especially hazardous considering any infecting organisms present on the outside of the flesh before it is ground is mixed throughout the entire patty. Steaks, on the other hand, are safe enough as these organisms are literally burned off of the outside of the cut.

No. Rare is cooked, just not to the point that is moderately or very cooked.

Because they have Class. If you don't care, how it's cooked, then go to McDonalds.

Yes, I have gotten violently sick eating rare hamburger at a food chain
KaleyK
Raw hamburger will not make you violently sick ... assuming you are otherwise healthy and have a reasonable digestive system intact. If you're old, sick, or have digestive challenges, raw hamburger is not a good idea. And even a burger cooked "rare" is not the same as "raw". Don't be a snowflake.

They must be at the BOTTOM of the food chain....
