Is there any way to reprogram a Verizon FiOS cable box to ignorer single digit presses on the remote control?

To go to cable channel 12, I would accidentally hit 12 OK 2, the box the box will tune to channel 2, instead of just ignoring the extra digit. You have less than 3 seconds to hit cancel.
