Lithium batteries lose their ability to hold charge over time. Can freezing a Li-on or Lithium polymer battery extend battery life?

It never ceases to amaze me at the stupidity of some people. No! Idiot.! You cannot freeze a battery, any battery!
Robert J
No, it will be damaged by freezing. For storage, charge it to around 50 - 60%, put it in an airtight bag and put it in the fridge - not a freezer. That is the recommended way of storing lithium-ion packs if they are not going to be used for an extended period. Stored like that, the capacity loss is only about 1% per year. Let if get back to room temperature before opening the bag, so it does not get condensation in it. [Freezing can damage a cell by causing dendrites (crystallization) in the electrolyte components and piercing the separator or damaging material bonds.].

NEVER, EVER Freeze Any Battery. Period. You just have to live with the fact that batteries deteriorate over time.

Freezing the battery will probably damage it. The damage won't show till you warm it up, then maybe it will catch fire

If freezing a battery would extend it's life, I would've been able to start my car yesterday when the temp dropped down below freezing. It was working fine before then, but because of the freeze, I had to buy a new battery, because it wouldn't hold a charge anymore after freezing. They actually make heat blankets to help protect batteries from freezes. My suggestion is to only buy one battery for you device, and when it fail then buy a new one. If you already have two batteries, either use a trickle charger to keep it from draining completely over extended time, or alternate the batteries so that one isn't drained for a prolonged period.

Any battery goes to a fridge dear.

Lithium Ion batteries for most things have between 300 to 500 FULL cycles. Two half cycles equals one full cycle. Freezing it won't extend the life.

No.Freezing it could damage it.
