Why can't i download songs onto my Itouch?
I just bought the 6th generation Ipod touch and connected the USB to my macbook air and it said i needed os x 10.11.5 update and i tried updating it and i couldn't because i don't have the right mac to update it

That's Apple for you. Unless you can somehow force an upgrade to a newer version of the macOS software, you can't do anything with your iPod in terms of using iTunes to manage your media. Without a compatible computer (Windows or Mac), you can only buy music through iTunes on your iPod or subscribe to Apple Music or other music streaming services (Pandora, Spotify, etc)
