How long does audio cable last for?

It depends on what you do with it and what type of "audio cable". I have cables connecting the parts of my home stereo that are maybe forty years old. They've been removed and re-fitted a few times over the years but otherwise I leave them alone. I guess that eventually the insulation will break down but that might take centuries. It's a different story with something that is continually flexed, removed and refitted, stood on, yanked around etc.

Some of them will last for centuries if not abused.

As long as it takes you to damage it...one second less than that.

Really all depends on the quality of the cable and the usage. If you have a well-made cable that's properly shielded it'll probably last for years. If you have a cheap one that you constantly roll over with your chair or something, or you try to put out more power than it's rated for, then it's probably going to get damaged sooner or later but there's no hard and fast answer.

Forever unless it is flexed repeatedly.
