I'd go for the XR though the Note 9 is the overall better spec'ed between the 2 (though the on paper specs doesn't equate to in-practice performance)

None just go a get a cheap android phone.Lets face most people that buy expensive phones want to show it off to there friends.

All Samsung does is pay a licensing fee for an inferior OS and then up charge the phones that they ripped off from Apple. There's hundreds of cheaper Android phones...if you're going the Android route. But the only reason anyone buys Android is to protest Apple, not because they actually want Android. So, just buy Apple.
