Is McAfee a good anti-virus software?

McAfee is still regarded as one of the worst Anti-Virus programs around. Most people these days use Windows Defender. I't not like it was 7 or 10 years ago when an anti-virus or firewall was almost mandatory.

No, plenty of free ones out there that fit the bill. Windows defender is pretty alright these days, combined with UAC prompts makes security much easier

Its crap. When we had AT&T DSL/U-Verse, my dad would always try to get me to download it on our PCs. I decided to try it, and it was a mess. The AT&T branded version of McAfee was slow and seemed to lack some features of the 'regular' version. Trying to turn off real-time protection was difficult since the menus were hidden; Even finding the exclusions settings was a nightmare. This was 7+ years ago, so I don't know if things have gotten slightly better or much worse.

I've had McAfee and STILL got a virus on my laptop that corrupted the hard drive. It's terrible, get something else.

I've been using Panda Antivirus free version for a few years and it works great.

its okay for basic virus protection. HP and McAfee has some sorta contract with each other because I remember back in the Windows 98 days, it was still being enforced. I recommend Norton. If you want a free antivirus software go with avg.

It's fine, but McAfee and Kaspersky get better reviews and have been recommended to me more than Norton by IT professionals.

No it is not. It slows down your computer and is total JUNK. Are you using Windows 10?? If so you already have an Anti Virus program. Windows Defender and that is all you need. Study Defender and learn about it and you will see. It has something no one else has. Controlled Folder Access. Prevents programs from making changes to your protected folders. Virus like Ransomware can't encrypt your files.
