Is Blocking a number counteractive?

(DEBATE) When a relationship has ended, and one party can not get rid of the other...is it more logical to block the number or change YOUR number? Mind you that blocking, only disable calls and messages from this person, but you still have to keep their number in your phone on the blocklist. If you want no part or remembrance of this person. Wouldnt it be more logical to change your number?
