Move system onto larger disk on a gaming computer?
I got my daughter a 2nd hand gaming computer which had a small disk. I installed a 1tb disk successfully but need to transfer the system onto the new large disk as the small disk is almost full. I have set it so that new games go on to the large disk but my daughter keeps getting messages that the disk is full and she cannot save game data for games on the small disk. I suspect that moving the applications folder onto a different disk to the system files will cause problems.
I am normally Apple but am fairly tech savvy. What is the best way to transfer the system and games onto the large disk?
Back up wipe and restore to the large disk?
thanks

You need to image copy or "clone" of the existing system drive to the new drive. Then shut the machine down, disconnect the small drive and change the first boot device in the machine BIOS to the new drive as it starts up. Clonezilla is a suitable free tool to do the copying. Get the "live" version. https://clonezilla.org/ Once the machine is working on the new drive you can reconnect the old drive if you wish. It's advisable to not have it connected when first trying to boot from the new drive, then nothing can mess it up and you can swap back if needed, if something does not work as it should on the first try. Removing the data cable is sufficient.
