What would you say is the most important thing you look for in a computer / lap top?

The first thing is to decide what you want it for. If it's just for emails and internet browsing then the choice is much easier than if you wanted to simulate weather patterns. A realistic look at how much you store in the way of data would convince you that you don't need 1Tb of SSD storage, but then if you wanted to run 2 kinds of Windows and 3 kinds of Linux as virtual machines then you might need all that. Likewise with RAM. If you're not into video editing you really don't need 32Gb of RAM, but if you are into video editing then you really really do need as much as you can cram in.

1. Having a SSD hard drive. 2. Having at least a full HD screen (1920x1080) 3. Intel i5 or i7 4. For gaming have at least a NVIDIA 1050 GTX GPU If you meet those specs the rest will always fall in line.

CPU. The brain of the whole thing. If you have like 32gb of ram and a gtx1070, it doesn't matter if you're running a celeron. It's good to have high clock speeds and higher number of cores.

High RAM, storage, latest processor and a huge screen. Oh and not an Apple brand lol
