How well do dulley wheels on motor home do in the snow?

I have a 1979 22 foot motorhome. It has rear wheel drive with 16.5 dually wheels. I am thinking about taking it on a road trip over Christmas. I would be traveling in an area where snow is common. I would not go if the roads are not clear but know that weather changes. I am wondering how well my rig would do in snow if I were to snow ? Would I need chains? For 4 tires or just 2 tires? I have the option to take a sedan with front wheel drive, I would rather have the motor home for camping in though.

If the weather is going to be below freezing that rig is going to be relatively useless to you. Those old Motor Homes don't have heated compartments so sll your water and waste lines will freeze and probably crack. Better to take the car and book Motel/ hotel rooms. Also most if not all campgrounds in snow country are either closed or have the water shut off in the winter. Then too, that rig will become a big ski in the snow.

Get tire chains for the outer tires. Anywhere there are steep hills it's absolutely required. Personally, I'd just take the fwd sedan and book motels. In snow country, most campgrounds and rv sites are either closed or don't have running water. Unless you have a well insulated rig, your plumbing will also freeze. If you don't mind dry camping, you'll still have limited options of where to camp. p.s. it's spelled dually.
