Hydrostatic transaxle lawnmower takes off slowly?

I have an old 1990s murray select series lawn mower with a hydrostatic transaxle. I did adjust the linkage from the gas pedal to the transaxle so it can go slightly faster. But after that, every time I would want to drive it, I would have to hold my foot down on the gas pedal for a couple of minutes before it starts to move. Is this a problem with the linkage from the pedal to the transaxle or did I mess something serious up

"adjusting" any setting from the factory setting is not a good thing............try "readjusting" what you did and if that does not help ( presuming the engine has a fresh complete tune up ) then it may be time for a mechanic

HYDROSTATIC means there should be transmission fluid in the system that transfers torque from the engine to the rear axle. Have you checked the fluid level?

You may have altered the hydro trans valve setting which affects fluid flow and power. The main fluid valve that the gas pedal linkage attaches to controls the amount of fluid flow in the transaxle which affects the power delivery/speed.By adjusting it for higher top speed, you may have changed how it flows fluid at low speed/idle. Try readjusting the linkage back to where it was or fiddle with the adjustment in various settings. Most have a threaded swivel you can change how it attaches/adjusts. A shop/operators manual with proper instructions would help to adjust the setting. Check for low fluid level too or clogged trans fluid filter is so equipped.

Is there hydraulic fluid for the lawnmower? If the fluid is low that could affect it's response..
