1958 Evinrude Outboard Motor Timing?
I made some repairs on the outboard and now need to place the flywheel back on. What position does the piston need to be in for the flywheel to sit properly on?

It doesn't matter, the flywheel is keyed, and will only go on the crankshaft one way.

the piston should be at the top the flywheel will probably only fit one way

it should be a keyed on flywheel so it will not matter it should be a 2 stroke for that year

Watch a youtube video to show you how to do that.

It does not matter what position the piston is in. But the flywheel should be installed in the SAME position it was removed.

And that kiddies is why there is an outboard agent who carries out proper work servicing and repairing outboards
