Is Drone an airplane or no?
USAFisnumber1
If it has fixed wings and is heavier than air it is an airplane. If it does not have fixed wings and is heavier than air then it is some type of rotor craft. If it is lighter than air then it is a blimp/balloon type craft.

Drone is a generic name given to any remotely controlled un-manned aerial vehicles. Like "aircraft". It means something and nothing. To be an aeroplane, a drone must have motor(s) and wings with an aerofoil cross-section to generate lift, and flight surfaces to provide control. They should also be capable of maintaining sustained controlled flight. Some drones such as the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper fall into this category. But when you say drone, most people will think of those flying tea trays powered by electric motors turning little heli-props for lift and control. Those are not aeroplanes.

A drone can be fixed wing (airplane) or rotary wing (helicopter). I build (built) fixed wing drones for local photographers, hobbyists and real estate agents. I have NO ORDERS at present and basically just repair units already in the hands of clients.
Luke
A drone could be any type of unmanned aircraft but quadrocopters are not airplanes.

Of course

Yes

a UAV is an aircraft. i would put it in the category of airplanes. it's an unmanned aerial vehicle.
Denny
Aircraft means a device that is used or intended to be used for flight in the air. Airplane means an engine-driven fixed-wing aircraft heavier than air, that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its wings. So the correct answer depends if it has an engine, fixed wings and heavier than air.

I do not think so.

No. Drones are aircraft but not airplanes. They do not stay in the air because of air passing over an aerofoil.
