My mortgage is paid off as of last year. A man took pictures of my house and said I had unpaid taxes from 2016.Why are they taking photos?

I'm guessing the house may come for a tax sale because of unpaid taxes and this person may be interested in bidding on it. TODAY, go to the tax office and see if you owe any taxes. Even if you owe $1.00, it could trigger a tax sale.

You should have taken pictures of the man. Surely you are aware of your tax liabilities? Paying off a mortgage has no connection with taxation.

Maybe just to scare you. Maybe to get ready to sell it after it is seized by the government for unpaid taxes. Maybe to sell the rights to the unpaid tax. If the tax in 2016 was supposed to be paid through the escrow account at the mortgage bank, check with them to see if they screwed up. It happens.

because you owe taxes according to him...the town/county may be moving to foreclose. contact the tax office on Monday (although they might not be in if they got drunk watching the superbowl). there is always a chance he got the wrong address in my area, the DEBT is sold, not the house at first. an investor buys the debt and you have to pay them back with a lot extra.....if you don't pay them back, they foreclose
