Is there any land in the US that I can go sit on and claim as mine after staying a certain period of time? Free land of coarse!?
Norman
course

Ther is no such thing as free land. You would always have to pay property taxes on any land you own.

Not any more

If its public land then no. You could build a house and live in it for 100 years in the wilderness but if its public land they'll kick you off it eventually (at least thats the law). If its privately owned land or even a privately owned house then you have just go live in it and if nobody notices you can eventually claim ownership. It may take 20 years before you can claim ownership in this way and you are far more likely to get shot than anything else but in theory you could get ownership of something this way.

Sitting on land will not get any land given to you

Not exactly. There are a few places that will give you free land, but with specific requirements that aren't met by just sitting on it. For example, some of them give you land that has nothing on it, and require you to build a house (also, it's typically places where land with houses already on it is so cheap that you're not saving much money by getting free land and having to pay to build the house).

Nope. All land in the US is owned - there's nothing you can just have because you sit on it.

No it doesn't work that way.

You could look up the adverse possession laws i n each state and try that route, but it isn't free, you'd have to pay the property taxes every year and it would take somewhere between 7 and 25 years.

You need to read up on adverse possession. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adverse_possession#United_States
