How difficult is it selling life insurance?

Of all of the types of insurance, life insurance is the worst to sell, since this is a product that not everyone wants to buy. So in the beginning, you sell a policy to your parents, siblings, friends etc, then stuck looking for new customers, thus many times cold calling strangers, who hang up on you, or cuss you out. Now if you are licensed in health or property and casualty, then can sell health insurance, or homeowners, renters and auto insurance, that most people need. Do you have savings of at least 6 months to pay your bills? As an agent, then your income is commissions, thus if you don't sell, then you get NO income, like a regular job that pays your a salary/paycheck every week. That is why they say that most (new) agents quit after (less) than a year, since they go broke from not making enough money to live on.

Nobody needs much of it, you make far more money selling whole life (which is close to a legal scam) than term so you are essentially only well paid if you can trick people into buying way more than they need or want - its pretty difficult? The most successful guys I've seen are extremely good salesmen that just don't care if they get turned down 20 times in a row. Now selling just regular insurance (house, car, life too) is a bit easier, here you can just give people what they need, do a good job and thrive. This may be the way to go though admittedly a really good salesman would probably make more in the long run from the few clients he can talk into buying large whole life policies.

Some have a knack for it. Many do not want to pester family/friends or put up with the Constant rejection. Some people can get REALLY ugly with their rejections, so you have to be braced for it. Frankly, I would not waste my time/energy.

Hard way to make as living Involves a lot of cold calling which most people hang up on. My philosophy on insurance agents is, unless I call you leave me the **** alone, cold call me and I will get rude

Not at all easy. Only the agents who got good convincing skills and someone who has nothing else to do could survive. Most of them don't even survive for 6months.

You're selling a promise, an intangible product. Everyone needs it, sooner or later, but it's a tough product to sell.

It's a tough way to make a living and there's a lot of competition for the jobs from other people with no college or training in anything else. Turnover rate is high because most people trying it don't make it. It's better to get an education or training in a trade.

Selling life insurance as a career is difficult to make a living. It a difficult way to keep a long-lasting career and you only make little profit. According to research fewer than one in 10 people who embark on a career selling life insurance remain in the business beyond one year, because of how hard making a living this way is.
