What is black and white if not a color?

This depends on what specific terms you want to use. Do you want to use science terms? If so, then black is the absence of color, and white is a combination of all colors. Do you want to use advanced art terms? Black and white aren't colors at all, black is a shade, and white is a tint. Do you want to use color mixing terms? Black is a combination of all the paint colors, and white is no paint colors. Either way, its hard to talk about white and black without using the word color, but they still are not colors. They are things that are effected by colors, and they effect colors, but they are not colors.
