I want to learn a musical instrument, but I don t know which one?

I want to start playing an instrument, but I don t know which one I should start with. I have read a few articles saying that a piano/keyboard, guitar, and violin are good places to start, but I don t know which one to pick. Which one would you recommend? It does not have to be one of the ones I mentioned.

I dont know who told you a violin is a "good place to start" - it's one of the most difficult instruments to learn! Like some of the others said, you need to pick an instrument that calls you; the one you feel that you "just have to learn". I'd say that if you don't have that feeling then you shouldn't go any further. It's certainly no use trying to learn an instrument because other people say you should.

When attempting to Learn musical instrument it should be one that you feel a calling to. Just Wanting is not enough, especially with no feeling. A drum would do, most people like the beat or thump, even the devil's tattoo. Noise value, where you live, where you play. Carry Capacity, size and convenience. Joy, the most important part of the decision. You have Strings, Piano, Harp, Bass, Guitar, etc. Brass, Trumpets, Trombone, Tuba, Sousaphone, French horn. Woodwinds, Oboe, Bagpipes, Clarinet, Saxophone, Fife, etc. Percussion, Wood Block, Triangle, Drum, Glockenspiel , etc. Read some books, watch some YouTube videos, visit a local music store. Did you forget, that an instrument needs Tuning, and Maintenance too.

I recommend keyboard, which is very versatile, or ukulele which is simple and fun.

No one can answer that for you. Nor give you guidance without more information from you. Learning an instrument is a great thing you will never regret. But why do you want to? Just kind of interested? Then what instrument do you have access to? Can you borrow one from school or from someone you know? Are your fingers nimble - they a keyboard might be the thing. Good with nimble fingers and good breath - sax, flute, trumpet or one of he other woodwinds. Great at keeping timing - go for drums. The drummer keeps the band on the beat. Do you want to carry the instrument with you on trips, vacations, etc? Skip the piano and learn the guitar. Go to a instrument shop and see if they will give you a two minute lesson on a couple of different instruments and talk to you about your choices.

Musicians have told me that stringed instruments, especially those without frets (such as violins), are fairly difficult. They also say that the piano is relatively easy, because you don't have to contort your fingers to get chords, the notes are laid out in a linear order. I don't know where wind instruments fit into this, except that the trumpet requires strong abdominal muscles. I used to like the penny whistle, but that has a very limited range. There are many challenges in mastering an instrument, and it's best to start young. But be prepared to spend 2 hours a day on it.

Drums are easiest, international, best, and useful for learning all other instruments.

Not sure what gender you are, but chicks LOVE dudes who play the triangle.

I would recommend the piano/keyboard, but the guitar is more portable ! This has it's advantages ! By the way, I'm a guitar player !

Recommend trying some things! If you've got friends who will let you try out some of their instruments ( after sanitization if necessary of course ), ask them! When I was a kid the band teacher let my try the mouthpiece of a flute and I did rather well getting the right sound, so that's why I chose to play the flute, haha.

guitar is easy to get the hang of. it just takes a lot of practice to get better and play things good or fast or whatever. but do whatever is most interesting to you.

cristal

Honestly piano/keyboard because they’re really easy and fun to learn and play

Not Really a Doctor

Start with any kind of piano to learn chord progressions and music theory. Once you figure that out, finding those notes on almost any other instrument will be so much easier.

Piano is a good start relatively easy

Buy yourself an autoharp. It looks very complicated, but it's not. Just don't let other people know how easy it is.

Piano is good to start with and understand note intervals. I learned the flute subsequently, and I’m now grade 7. I also always wanted to learn the harp!
